Today we welcome 30 final year students from National College of Ireland, Galway to Firefly. The students’ will learn about podiatric mechanical orthotic therapy across the day. They will spend the day in the company of staff from our clinical and lab divisions. This morning they’re meeting Martin Mc Geough, Firefly’s Founder and Medical Director. Later today Sarah O’Connell, a graduate of NUIG, will welcome the students to our clinical division, Firefly Foot & Ankle Clinics.
At Firefly we have been continuing to strengthen our relationships with universities who deliver undergraduate Podiatry courses across the UK and Ireland. In recent weeks Plymouth University announced the Firefly Scholarship. This scholarship seeks to contribute to the academic fees of two final year students and will also see the recipients spend time gaining practical experience in Firefly’s clinical and lab divisions.

We had over 200 entries for our Annual Conference draw where delegates were hoping to win some cutting edge 3D scanning technology in the form of a Structure Sensor 3D scanner and an accompanying iPad.
If you were one of the many delegates who attended the Firefly demonstration at the conference you would have seen how the Structure Sensor can be used to either capture the patient’s foot data, or alternatively, you can scan the Plater of Paris casts and send the digital file to the orthotic lab for manufacture.
Ultimately, by incorporating digital files into your clinical workflow you can reduce lead times when ordering custom made orthoses. At Firefly we have been successfully using the Structure Sensor technology in our Irish clinics for some months now.
Congratulations to Elizabeth Green of Total Foot Health. We will be in touch in the coming days with Elizabeth and the iPad and Structure sensor will be winging it’s way to Total Foot Health very soon.
Many thanks to all who visited the stand and entered the draw. If you’d like to find out more about the Structure Sensor technology make sure to view our demonstration from the conference here.

The sessions were video recorded and we’ll endeavour to have these available for you to watch on www.firefly.ie in the coming days. Many thanks to those of you who attended.

Dr. Andrew Murray told those assembled for the annual conference’s opening speech that 5.3 million people die each year from physical inactivity. At Firefly we are all about keeping people moving, from the feet up. But we’re also aware that for many reasons, not everyone is in a position to keep as physically active as they would like. For the elderly, those with reduced mobility or those recovering from injury, maintaining good lower limb circulation is important. With this in mind, Firefly offer the Mobisit, the lower limb mobilisation application. Call to our stand 131-133 at the exhibition hall and try the Mobisit for yourself. #KeepMoving

It was a real pleasure to have London based sports Podiatrist, Ian Griffiths in Sligo today. We had a ‘board meeting’ on Sligo’s beautiful Garavogue river. We look forward to your next visit and working more closely with you in the future Ian!
Also joining Martin and Conor from Firefly and Ian was Chartered Physiotherapist Derek Parle, who works out of his clinic in Strandhill, Sligo.
Ian was a little tentative on his feet when paddling on his board as he had to catch a flight back to London directly after our little river soirée. He managed to stay dry and catch his flight home.

PIZZA FRIDAY!!! We’ve had an EXCEPTIONAL lunch here at Firefly, numerous pizzas have been consumed over the lunch hour. If we sound a little sluggish on the phones over the afternoon, you’ll know why.
Copyright law means the Marx Brothers’ film ‘Duck Soup’ is no longer available to watch in full on Youtube, so here’s a clip of Rufus T. Firefly’s introduction in the movie.
This news is a little late, but Firefly HQ’s fish population has been increasing over recent weeks. Can you spot Irish sprinter Zak Irwin in the background? Nice smile @ZakIrwin.
We had a party to celebrate our move into our new office space on the 4th floor of Connacht House. We invited Firefly’s friends and family, we drank a little wine and danced a little dance…. good times. Firefly’s HQ looks so good at night we’re thinking of opening the office as a wine bar at the weekends…. ‘FireBar‘.
A new picture has been hung on walls of Firefly HQ, but what is the connection between the Marx Brother’s Duck Soup and Firefly?
If you’ve a spare 58 minutes, sit back and watch the classic Marx Brothers film from 1933 and you’ll find out.
Something fishy is going on at Firefly HQ…. we’re mid installation of the Firefly fish tank. Orange fish only?
Another addition to our wonderful new office space overlooking Sligo’s Garavogue River and Sligo docks.
Call back here soon to see how the fish tank is progressing.
