Supplier name: Firefly Orthoses Ltd Publication date: November 2023
Commitment to achieving Net Zero: Firefly Orthoses is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2030.
Baseline Year: 2020: As Firefly evolved as a company, many of our base products were sourced from North America and ranged from milled plastics carbon fibre, and other non-biodegradable materials. |
|
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations. These are high-level estimates based on the processes and materials utilised by our suppliers and the associated shipping requirements. Production included a combination of milling (subtractive /waste generating manufacturing) which is generally based on petroleum-based plastics and other non-renewable production methods and components. Along with shipping and packaging, this contributed to some of our products having a material carbon footprint. |
|
There were previous Baseline Emissions estimates but no prior Scope 3 emissions reporting. Between 2020 and 2023 the company has undergone significant change, with a very clear focus on sustainability in all aspects. Over the last 3 years we have increased the push (and support) for customers to use digital processes. We are incentivising all of our customers to adopt and utilise 3D scanning to reduce waste in this area. We have been transitioning our business to devices made from plant-based materials which are 3D printed. This utilises efficient additive manufacturing using renewable, biodegradable plant-based resources. This is more sustainable than the previous “subtractive manufacturing” process which used power hungry milling machines and created significant waste. These 3D printed devices are now produced locally, consuming much less power, and eliminating transatlantic shipping. This transition is ongoing. |

Emissions reduction targets
In order to continue our progress to achieving Net Zero, we have adopted the following carbon reduction targets.
We project that carbon emissions will decrease over the next five years to 5 tCO2e by 2030. This is a reduction of 96%
Progress against these targets can be seen in the graph below:
Carbon Reduction Projects
Completed and ongoing Carbon Reduction Initiatives
The following environmental management measures and projects have been completed or implemented since the 2020 baseline.
The carbon emission reduction achieved by these schemes equate to 33 tCO2e, a 25%ge reduction against the 2020 baseline and the measures.
This work and transition are ongoing with further measures and actions in place. And we expect further improvements will be in effect in the coming months.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been completed in accordance with PPN 06/21 and associated guidance and reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans.
Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the GHG Reporting Protocol corporate standard and uses the appropriate Government emission conversion factors for greenhouse gas company reporting.
Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions have been reported in accordance with the published reporting standard for Carbon Reduction Plans and the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
This Carbon Reduction Plan has been reviewed and signed off by the board of directors
