Podiatric Medicine is my professional calling. Since the start of my degree at NUI Galway, podiatry has expanded my knowledge, built friendships, included me in remarkable projects, enhanced my love of sport and brough me back, full circle, to the University where I currently lecture 1st and 2nd year podiatric medicine students.
I have worked with Firefly Foot & Ankle Clinic in Sligo since 2016 where I have had the opportunity to focus on MSK podiatry, orthotic and bracing therapy.
I’m passionate about promoting podiatry at home and abroad which has led me lecturing and the designing & delivering of training programmes to podiatrists in the UK, Ireland and internationally.
I am a firm believer in continuous development and recently competed a MSc in Sports and Exercise Medicine at the University of Ulster. This aligned with my passion for sport, as I play Gaelic football and rugby.
My work abroad saw me help create the ‘Foot First’ Podiatry Programme in Tanzania. Operated through The Olive Branch for Children Organisation the programme sees Irish podiatrists travel to Tanzania to educate communities on the importance of foot health, treat patients and teach local nurses lower limb wound management. Our aspiration is to provide opportunity and support to educate a Tanzanian student in the School of Podiatry at NUI Galway.
In January I opened my own podiatry clinic – Momentum Foot & Ankle Specialists. It has been a labour of love and while it’s early days, it has gotten off to a great start.
I am proud to be part of a company that highlights women’s achievements and their need to challenge the course. I am delighted to have such impressive women with me on this journey and hope to meet many others. Happy International Women’s Day!
It is with great enthusiasm and excitement that I am beginning my journey as a Firefly Ambassador.
